Marston Road Campus, Oxford Brookes University
Client: Oxford Brookes University
Main Contractor: Leadbitter Central Construction
Contract: Design and Installation of Mechanical & Electrical Services
Architect: GSS
Contract Value: £3.9 million
Programme: 50 weeks / January 10 – Dec 10
Set within the Marston Road Campus, the project consisted of 11 three and four storey blocks with 375 student residences, a social provisions building and associated infrastructure.
Mechanical services included an energy centre comprising of gas fired condensing boiler plant and CHP unit. Student ‘pavilions’ were then fed via a district heating main which was split into CT and VT circuits within the ground floor service risers. The VT circuit served radiators via a pipe in pipe distribution system controlled by presence/stat sensors located within each bedroom.
The CT circuit served packaged heat bank units by means of primary and secondary plate heat exchange units. The system was fully controlled via a BMS controls network and integrated with the universities existing systems.
Electrical services were provided via one substation & include site wide LV distribution and all internal / external lighting and power. Energy efficient photocell controlled LED bollard fittings were used throughout. A site wide networked fire alarm system was installed and again was integrated into the universities existing system. A comprehensive networked access control system is installed, capable of monitoring, logging and restricting movement of individuals and a CCTV system covering the entire development.
